October: A Tale of Three Trunk Shows

October: A Tale of Three Trunk Shows

Trunk shows are the heartbeat of Noonday’s business model. I love that instead of a storefront or online-only sales, we do relationship and conversation. We connect to style and impact while we connect with each other. I love that hosting offers women a simple way to expand their impact and their wardrobe while having fun with friends. I provide lots of tips and guidance to make your job as hostess easier! You gather friends and get them excited; I do the rest.

And as you’ll see, trunk shows can look very different for different hostesses - which is what makes this so fun! Just as every hostess is unique, every show is unique. If you’ve ever wondered about what it could look like to host a show, or wanted a peek into my life as an Ambassador, look no further than three of my October shows.

Thanks for three years of impact with me!

Thanks for three years of impact with me!

It started with that time I felt inspired to host a Noonday trunk show.

I had a growing interest in ethical fashion, and wanted chances to engage my friends in great conversations around it. I loved the little bit I'd heard about Noonday here and there, so went to the website, typed in my ZIP code, and waited for my screen to show me a list of area ambassadors.

"We can't find this ambassador," it said. Really? Zero ambassadors near Madison, WI?

How to change the world when you're tired: 10 tips for social entrepreneurs

For years, I’ve struggled with fatigue, anxiety, brain fog, and more. It’s improved but still affects me and made me hesitant to join Noonday. “That’s for people who have something I don’t,” I thought to myself.

I’m so glad I listened to my heart instead. I didn’t let these fears sideline me, but chose instead to believe that there’s more than one way to be a social entrepreneur. So I dove in.

But to make this work, I’ve had to learn to honor my needs and maximize the mental and physical energy I do have. In this post for Noonday’s blog, I share my 10 tips for succeeding as a tired social entrepreneur.

Book Review: Imperfect Courage

Book Review: Imperfect Courage

Here's what I need you to know: this book is very Jessica and very Noonday, but it is not about Jessica and Noonday. It is about you. Through her story of adoption, scrappy beginnings of what would become the biggest fair trade jewelry company in the world, body image struggles, and more...as well as stories of Jalia and other world-changers and changed lives she's met along the way... she takes specifics and makes them general and accessible to anyone interested in living a life of impact.

And that's why I want you to get your hands on this book.

The Power (and Evolution) of Gathering

When we gather, there is power. We gather at trunk shows around purpose and style. We gather around stories and friendship. We see gorgeous handiwork up-close, trying it on, playing with it, laughing, admiring, connecting across the globe and across the living room. We know that when that package arrives in the mail, it will contain something we can cherish, for its aesthetic beauty and the beauty that comes through story and impact. Being right in the thick of this is one of the things I love most about my job.

6 Lessons from Vietnam on Entrepreneurship and Life

6 Lessons from Vietnam on Entrepreneurship and Life

Across an ocean, across the supply chain, we piled into small workshops and lush courtyards to watch some of our favorite pieces come to life. In the Artisans, and on noisy streets and quiet beaches with friends, I encountered wisdom I want to emulate in my own business and life, and share with those I coach. And as our Artisan business partners commit so fiercely to their work, I’m compelled to step up in mine so that together we can grow this movement. I hope these six takeaways will inspire you along your own path too...

What Hanoi motorbikes taught me about goals

Sometimes we have to “go scared” and stay focused on a path toward our goal, anticipating but not panicking at the noise, dangers, or setbacks that make us think maybe we're doing it all wrong. We have to learn from others. And we have to believe that a well-planned path to a worthy goal is worthwhile even if it's scary. See what I learned, while traveling to Vietnam with Noonday Collection, about boldness and guts in entrepreneurship and life.

Tired Girl Blogging

Tired Girl Blogging

Do you have big dreams but don’t seem to have the energy to match? Then I hope you’ll see yourself in my story. I had a calling to fight against human trafficking, but wasn’t sure where it would land or how I’d pull it off. In the midst of autoimmune disease and fatigue, I’ve challenged myself neither to push through as if the issues aren’t there, nor let them sideline me. Let's not leave impact, joy, creativity, and entrepreneurship to those people who wake up full of energy every day, or who are super organized, or who have the right education, or whatever lies we may tell ourselves. Let's shuffle our way in to join them, coffee in hand, one step at a time, with abundant grace towards ourselves. Click to read my first-ever post, Tired Girl Blogging, about how entrepreneurship can be for you too.
